There is nothing to BLOGOSPHERE but BLOGOSPHERE itself.
It seems that many web-loggers can't see the forest for the woods.
I'll cut to the point:
Today's BLOGOSPHERE has become so immense that notions of producing a hot, or popular blog seem increasingly pretentious. Sure, there are a few (successful?) blogs that catch on, for any number of reasons. And, of course, there are those few that are just so outstanding, they deserve a wide reading.
As for the rest of us... I think we do better to treat our blogs more like... well... personal logs, or journals (as opposed to some grand socio-political commentary page). We should try to leave the business of knowing it all to those who truly know-it-all.
I think we realize the true usefulness of blogging, not so much in it's ability to impress others, but in the value of blogging for BLOG'S SAKE!
I believe that those who record and keep their thoughts about the world, in whatever journalistic form, have the great advantage of hightened self-knowledge... or, even, self-awareness.
So, the more we write (and learn) about ourselves and the world around us, the more informed and engaged we become, and the more we have to contribute to the betterment of society, in general. The process of writing, from my experience, tends to enhance our will to think a little deeper about the issues of the day, personal or otherwise.
I think the BLOGOPHERE is valuable for the sense of interconectivity it affords us all. But, of more value for the sense of conecting with ourselves, and re-defining and appreciating our particular goals and aspirations.
So, I'm going to enjoy my blog-space on it's own terms and in my own time. If any visitors can relate to my ideas and postulations (and I got a lot) ... then at least they'll be getting the best part of my effort to be true to myself... and, maybe, find some truth, therein, to hold as their own.
Blog-on.
